Worth watching

I agree with almost everything Powell said, although I personally would not be troubled by more conservative appointees to the Supreme Court. This interview cemented my opinion of Colin Powell as a thoughtful, deliberate, intelligent man who is willing to speak out against his own party when necessary -- and I wish he would make himself available again to serve on the national level. We could use more leaders with his abilities and integrity.

yea! I'm first.... I concur, my friend. I thought Powell's comments were thoughtful and poignant and I hope, timely. Didn't you love the story of the grief-stricken mother by her son's grave? Sean and I both got teary and uttered, "thank you...finally" Finally, someone is acknowledging that hatred, racism and fear have been perpetuated in this campaign season- and that is plain wrong. We have a new mantra around our house-- "We are Christians, so it still matters how we treat each other." :) I fully intend on sending you an fb message this week (that's facebook, btw) to explore all of my LDS family ties. :) Happy Monday. ---Rochelle

Love this interview. It was powerful. Hopefully it won't be taken lightly.

I think Powell's is the first endorsement that matters. Despite his involvement in leading us to war for the wrong reasons, there probably isn't a national political figure more respected across the spectrum.

How do you say that Obama is in any way un-American or incapable of the job at this point? Well, you pull the Limbaugh, and say it's all about race for Powell.

I'm with you on this one. AG

Powell would be nothing without the GOP. I'm not saying McCain should be supported (I struggle with the guy too), but Powell needs to remember what got him where he is. The dems wouldn't give him the time of day. So I find the whole thing a bit ironic. --Andrew

I think it says a lot that Powell is "reaching across the aisle" so to speak. Acts like this unify our country, unlike McCains campaign that seems to furthur divide...
I think the Dems are more then giving Powell the "time of day", and its refreshing.

Yes. I loved what he had to say, but also agree with you about more conservative Supreme Court folk. Thanks for sharing these great political videos recently (Palin & Powell).

Go MSNBC.com Video! I used to work with those guys.

I wish Colin Powell would run for office, but he's just too smart to put himself through that. He is a model of what a public servant should be.

Socially and word writting challenged as I am and often continue to prove, I hope somehow this whole thing will make sense!

First, I agree with the more Christian way that Colin spoke about each of the candidates and striving to keep away from "race choice" and to stem the hatred and racial biases. We would all benefit from this type of stance and that includes me!

Although, I do not allow one mans point of view, even when presented in a well spoken manor to change mine though! He has helped change the words I choose and how I speak more carefully and respectfuly of each. With that said, I continue to search the facts and find that my gut feeling is what I will follow as it was right about Clinton and was much more mild. I won't allow or try to patronize a smooth talker out of guilt for not having elected a black person to office or repressing their people somehow generations ago.

Obama is not for the small business man as you can watch for yourself the joe the plumber videos:

http://www.traditionalvalues.org/2008-pvr/video/vid78.php

He is really concerning when I hear him just make promises to get what he wants.

My stance on this issue is simple, I am only 80% against Obamas point of view. His candidacy is really just about "his" view not being a servant to the people and what the people want from all that I have read.

McCain seems more for the people.

Why isn't anyone truly bringing to the fore front that America is like Aesops fable of the goose and the golden egg.

Businesses, government, and internationally investors in general have slowly begun to starv the people for many years now we are the "Goose."
Here is what I see: higher medical costs, over paid medical hence everyone flocking to do the job for money not because of a higher cause, Insurance increases, basically everything has increased exponentially. Wages have stagnated and the middle class is disappearing, lower benifits, lower raises, removal of annual bonuses, outsourcing, mean while claiming highest ever profits than ever before, lower cost production and a need to reduce the cost of the liability called the employee. Employees are not an asset on any accounting record if you ask one you will find employees as liabilities not an investment.

We the people ie: the goose are very sick and finally manifesting the later signs of the illness begun years ago.

The Book of Mormon says it more eloquently than I can in a story about a society very much like ours, they had pride - lack of humility by the majority.., greed, self centered, entirely forgetting the Lord their God and rebelling against him, how sad.

A promise by a Prophet who spoke of a blessing and cursing on this land:
9:20 blessing
20 And thus the Lord did pour out his blessings upon this land, which was choice above all other lands;

Ether 2:9 Cursing
9 And now, we can behold the decrees of God concerning this land, that it is a land of promise; and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall serve God, or they shall be swept off when the fulness of his wrath shall come upon them. And the fulness of his wrath cometh upon them when they are ripened in iniquity.

well, I have a few questions that I would like the intelectual to share their ideas on as it will help me to become a better person to know what your research has brought!

Why do we get the knee jerk reaction to a high budget and get so mad at Bush for keeping the terrorist attacks off of our soil?

Why do we become upset with Bush rebuilding our military defenses back to a point where we are not at best 3rd in the world as it was during the Clinton administration?

Doesn't it cost money to repair the damage done at the cost of just making ones self look good financially as well as rebuilding a military world power strength?
wonder if the financial look good is kinda how the whole bailout thing got started?

What will the Senate and Congress actually support either candidate in as well as they have with the Bush administration despite any of the campaign promises made?

What are the promises we really want them to support?

For now,

Yes I agree such a fantastic powerful statement, let us all pray for change. And I do believe Obama is the right person out of the two.

Elly,
I think you are right! Thanks for the good idea!

I might just get one going in 2 weeks
and post the link Didi won't let me post here!
Thanks for all the ideas and posts everyone! I tried to allow Obama the benefit of the doubt and it has gone!

Ezra T's talk from Callies site has put me over the top with sufficient information to make the decision.

Independent gone Republican vote this election!

I love Colin Powell, but I completely disagree with him on this one.

Remember this, "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to complacency; From complacency to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”
