Reason #372 Why I Love My Husband


In the "winter," Stephen gets all geared up every night and sleeps with a ski hat pulled low and a warm sweatshirt. He piles on extra comforters and pulls them up to his chin.

We live in Arizona. Our heat is set at 72 degrees. It is not cold in our house.

Simply adorable.

But if a storm suddenly sweeps in and it drops to 65 degrees in the dead of the night ... he'll be prepared.

As demonstrated in the picture posted, my hair line isn't what it used to be. Those of you who haven't lost any of your cerebral insulation can't hope to understand those of us with this maladie; but ski hats are our best defense against brain freeze in the night. I make no apologies. And, she really does think it's adorable.

Emily, I want to see a picture of steve while he is sleeping...

We had friends in Tokyo who hated to pay the outrageous prices for heat. It did get cold there, sometimes in the 30's at night. They, three kids included, wore ski hats and gloves to bed to stay warm.

Another taboo topic: money

I don't have a lot of real visible or artistic talents, but one talent that has served me well is an ability to manage and organize money well. A few of my sisters-in-law have asked me how I do the family budget, so this is a straight up accounting of how I do the accounting. When we get a paycheck: 10% tithing right off the top Then, with the remainder (net minus tithing), I divy it up into percentages and put money into different "funds" -- that I keep track of in the back of my paycheck because I'm old school like that. Mortgage: I figure out the percentage it will take to cover my mortgage. Usually 29-30%. I think this percentage needs to stay under 35% of take-home after tithing. Baby steps: 20% goes to meeting financial goals a la Dave Ramsey's baby steps.
