Taking lysine

The internet is great.

Isaac has been sick all week with a fever and sore throat. Yesterday he tested negative for strep throat, although the doctor was puzzled by it because he had spots of nastiness on his throat. Last night Isaac refused to eat dinner because his teeth were hurting him, and his gums were swollen. Steve suggested that could be related to his "flu" symptoms, so we googled "swollen gums sick." Within minutes we had diagnosed our child with herpetic gingivostomatitis, the herpes that causes cold sores and that manifests itself for the first time in children with fever and headache and painful mouth. Then I looked closer at the sore on his lip and saw that it was, indeed, a cold sore.

This morning I called the pediatrician's office to let them know what the puzzling sickness was, even though I'm sure they didn't care. (The receptionist was all, "What? Herpes?!")

The internet is great.

Pearl had that same illness a year or so ago. Same symptoms. Ask Abby about how long it lasted. AG
