Will you respect me less if I tell you I just read a bunch of Breaking Dawn spoilers online?

Or that last summer I read the last page of HP and the Deathly Hallows first?

What if I tell you that I let my husband cook every meal and wash every dish this weekend? Do you respect me less, yet?

If your respect for me is still high to moderate, I can arrange to take some photos of still-full suitcases from our many vacations this summer -- lying haphazardly on my bedroom floor.

And if you still don't respect me less, please know that I do not strongly advocate the Santa Claus tradition in my home, and my children very well may tell your children that he ain't real even though I tell them to keep it to themselves, thus making you mad at me and all your dreams of preserving innocence washed down the drain.

Okay. Now. Please indicate which of the above is the most appalling, and I will then have the opportunity to decide if I respect you less, depending on your answer. This is a fun game!

I'm just happy you read young adult books. Knowing that Emily C. reads the same guilty pleasure books I read makes me feel not so guilty. I too read the last page early, but usually when I am about a third into the book, it makes more sense then.

Hmm...the Santa Claus thing.

But I don't respect you any less.

(To do that you'd still have to hold a high regard for our current president.)

Mostly I feel better about myself knowing I am not the only one who has a hard time wanting to unpack after a trip. Dirty laundry for 11 is not the first thing I want to do when trying to recover from vacationing.

um, I read the first 30 pages, mocked every other paragraph, even read one particularly ridiculous one out loud to my husband, then skipped to the end and don't plan on ever reading the middle.

am i fired?

What makes me lose respect for you is the assumption that we (your readership) respect you to begin with! :) :)

Emily Godfrey, you are as witty and fun as ever!

Oh Anonymous, I'm so intrigued. Tell my about how funny I used to be. At Moon Valley, maybe??

Let's see:

I read a bunch of Breaking Dawn spoilers online last night.

I've never read a Harry Potter book - I just read online spoilers and/or wait for the movie to come out.

I haven't completely unpacked from my last trip (I think it's been over a month now . . .)

My mom was never big on Santa, and I don't remember ever believing in him, but Christmases were magical nonetheless.

I respect myself = I respect you.

(And I'm totally going to take you up on that dinner offer next time I'm in town.)

No wonder we're friends. I'm right there with you on everything except the suitcases. I have to admit I washed all the clothes, cleaned off the shoes and vacuumed out the car within an hour of being home from camping. But the Santa thing - definitely. If I don't tell them the truth about that, how will they ever trust me? Hope I don't permanently damage them. Thanks again for tonight. That was so fun and the food was great!

I don't advocate Santa in my home either!

I respect you even more than ever because you are willing to be so real and write posts like this one. I don't think that I could ever lose any respect for you!

um you know how I feel about the whole Santa Claus thing, so respect me or not, I'm still a little upset. And when I saw your Breaking Dawn title I wouldn't even look, but now I've read the book and can see that you didn't really give anything away. Let's just say we believe in magic at my house and I'd like to keep it that way!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. . .Find out what it means to Emily!

Em, you make us laugh! I love you and your floor full of full suitcases. Mine looks very similar.

But dang it, Em, I still believe in Santa Clause!! (Vampires and Warewolves nonessential)
