Your advice needed!

I was born in Illinois, but was just informed by my mother that when we lived there, we were too poor to drive to Chicago. Thus, I've never been.

I'm going to Chicago for the first time on Monday and haven't the foggiest what I should see and do whilst there.

Any suggestions would be most welcome and appreciated.

With love from San Diego, Emily

I occasionally check in and read your blog and saw that you were going to chicago. We just went to chicago last month...it really takes at least a week to see almost everything...especially with kids. The Sears tower is awesome, the shedd aquarium is brilliant, field museum, art institute, oriental theater (maybe WICKED is still playing there) and of course the shopping. there's the best deep dish pizza EVER across the street from the Sears tower...it's pretty well known, called Giordanos and down close to the shedd aquarium and field museum is a little diner with the best ambiance and food called the Eleven city diner. loved it! anyway, have funand hope to read about your trip!

Em, I went about a year ago with my in-laws. It was great. Michigan Avenue is so fun for shopping. We spent hours in Marshall Fields and had lunch in the Walnut Room (it was December and they are famous for their Christmas tree). We saw Wicked and loved it. A Cubs game is fun if they are in town. Have a great time!

Wow! Thanks for the input! I seriously know nothing about Chicago, so I'm excited to go discover it this week. I'm taking Norah, so Oprah's out. Plus, wouldn't you think I'd need tickets like months in advance. Keep the suggestions coming!

Pepper, I know, that was bad, wasn't it? We went with my mom and got there Friday night, spent all of Saturday at the zoo, got up this morning and went down to Point Loma, visited my grandpa and went to church, and came home. We only spent one day there, essentially. However, don't think I didn't think of calling you when we got to our h/motel and say that we had to smoosh seven people into the tiny little space that it was. With the king bed, crib, rollaway bed, and fold out chair/"chaise lounge" situation they had going, it was wall-to-wall with nowhere to walk. I definitely thought, "We should see if we can stay with the Hugheses." I guess it's time to spring for a second room when. . . .

Catherine, I really, really want to talk to you. I will be calling you soon.

Erica, thanks for all the tips. You are welcome here anytime!

So fun Emily! My parents went to Chicago last year and took an open top bus tour around the city that they said was fabulous. I know Claire is going there in August and am sure she has a list of 100 things to do/see so I'll tell her to send it on to you. Have fun!

You really should see "Wicked" but that would be kind of hard with Norah.

I've heard that Frontera Grill is REALLY worth going to, especially if you like Mexican food.
