This post might frustrate those of you who like pictures

In Chicago, I spent a very long time in H&M, poring over the racks and racks and racks of bogo sale items. I tried on a ton of things, and eventually settled on 4 things for myself: a long, striped brown sweater with tie belt; a very simple but cute black corduroy skirt; black linen pants that fit me nicely and are seen below in the fun mirror photo; and a funkyfunky gray dress that I may or may not ever wear. All of this cost me $35.

I wish to discuss the dress.

I could run and take a picture of it, and upload it so you would all know what I'm talking about, and I may still do that at some point, but for the purposes of this discussion, exercise your imagination with me. The dress is one large gray crocheted doily, shaped like a tent, with fitted three-quarter-length sleeves. I think it is so cool and retro. Do you have a visual? Good. Now, clearly, if I wear this dress to church, all the old ladies--and many of the young--will think I'm off my rocker. I am sure to get strange looks and maybe even some comments. Should I wear it anyway, or should I keep it in my closet until next Halloween when I can dress up like a Relief Society tablecloth, holding a bouquet of silk flowers and a framed picture of the temple? Because believe me, the costume would be believable.

{If I end up not having the chutzpah to wear the dress, I'm going to give it to Abby, because she could pull it off, fo shizzle.}

Emily, Are you a night owl, too? I usually am not but I stayed up late last night to write the post I had on my blog (on which you commented). Something close to both of our hearts. Thank you for your comment.

I woke up this Sunday morning and put it back in the "draft stage". Things are going so well with my extended family and friends with that big issue-- why in the world would I put something out there that might cause a firestorm or get people riled up? I prefer as little drama in my life as possible. I might pull it out of the archives in the future. Or maybe it was just a late night cathartic writing exercise for me. : )

Anyway, I sense your sincerity and goodwill towards me on the issue-- and send it right back your way.

p.s. I say you go with the dress. I couldn't do it-- but I think you could pull it off. : )

So that's where your cute black skirt came from. You looked very snazzy this morning. Maybe wear the black lace dress to a party and see how that goes. But then, I'm not daring in that regard.

Did you say that Abby could "pull off the dress?" In what sense did you mean that?

Steve, I feel like you are doubting me just a little bit.

Emily, I am honored (I think). Your description of the dress got me excited. It sounds rad. But then, maybe I should be discouraging you for certain reasons...

Go for it! If you do be sure to take a picture. We all want to see it. (If possible, a great daft look from some crazy ladies at church would be a great foreground to the picture!)

Firstly, I need to get myself to an H&M--all those goodies for $35? Lovely! Secondly, need a visual on the dress...but I say if you think it's cool and cute...go for it! Let them say what they will! Thirdly, Loved your trip pictures (previous post)...looked like so much fun.

Emily, now it is Monday so I don't know what you wore yesterday, but I think you should definitely wear the dress to church. It sounds very fashion-forward, and I'm sure it looks great on you. Just do it.

Oh, I can't even tell you how jealous I am. H&M! My favorite store! Maybe someday it will come to SLC. I feel like I'll be forever waiting. . .

I love H&M! It was the only way to buy cute clothes in NYC without breaking the bank. I literally jumped for joy when I saw that one was coming to the OC. (My hubby was embarrassed, as I jumped for joy in public. Also, I may have yelped a little.)

I think you should wear the dress with pride!

I'm picturing a tent with a doille? I think I need to really see the dress.

Not only can you pull it off, but you look adorable in it. Anyone who says differently has no fashion sense.
