Self Portrait*

I call it "Talking to my father-in-law while taking Norma** to bed on a Sunday night."

* It's Self Portrait Day.

**My father-in-law has an endearing habit of saying names/words wrong, only sometimes. Last night he asked about Norma. He is not alone. In my world, I notice that many people mispronounce the names of friends rather frequently. My grandma does it. Many people at church do it. I have a friend named Cerise, with a soft c. Many of her dear decades-old friends call her Cherise. She doesn't say anything. In fact, Cerise does it, too. She called yesterday looking for the Mandelin's phone number. The right name is Andelin. No wonder she couldn't find it in her directory. I am rather amused by this phenomenon.

Look at you, professional multi-tasker!

I am also amused by this, and since I have an unusual name--Dalene--quite used to it.

Isn't amazing the number of things we can accomplish since the invention of the cordless phone?

That Norma, she's a cutie. Your Grandpa does it too. Think DON.

My mother in law calls Savanna "Samantha" with regularity. (Don't point that out to Savanna). Sometimes the lips just don't say what the brain knows.

I've noticed people calling Cerise, Cherise and I was questioning myself about whether I was pronouncing her name incorrectly.

My Father-in-law calls sushi, shushi.

Some people who see the spelling of my name call me Jammy. I never let it bother me. It cracks me up.

I find the misspelling of names very funny also. So many people spell my name incorrectly. I love it. Sometimes I put an "e" on the end of my name just for fun!

People mispronounce/misspell my son Nails name all the time... oh I mean Nels.
Oh Emma you always make me laugh!

But it's not like you would name your child Norma. There is nothing wrong with Norma (did you know that a Norma resides in my head?)( I would link to that post here, but that just seems self-serving) Anyway, loved your self-portrait and you can add it to the tens for this year.

(Thanks for your e-mail, response to come soon...)

Well, I was going to bring up Norma even before cjane dropped that big, fat clue, I promise. I wanted to know how your FIL knew Norma, because she's a great one to know.

My mom used to hang up on high school friends of mine who'd call me if they didn't pronounce my name right. What can I say, The Change is more difficult for some than for others.

Your picture captures being a "Mom" really well. Nice to meet you!
