Iser the (anything but a) Miser

It just occurred to me that since Steve bought a nice camera, why am I guilting myself into taking the kids on their birthdays to Target Photo Studios with the fake crappy backgrounds and forced smiles? I loathe taking my kids in to get their "professional" photos done and always put it off until well after their birthdays that I want to document. So no more.

Isaac is 5 today, so we went outside for a photo shoot. Someday I'll learn how to take pictures, but here are some decently cute ones with classic Isaac facial expressions.

I spy: freckles, beautiful brown eyes, thick and curly hair, nicely-spaced itty bitty teeth, the obligatory Spiderweb pose, and his two favorite presents (a feather hat and a cardboard boomerang that he'll "always use" which were made by his sometimes-nemesis-sometimes-kind-older-brother Aaron*)

*We are actively promoting the kind older brother version of Aaron, and so it's okay that Isaac was more excited about the homemade gifts than about the ones we spent real money on. Yay for brothers who like each other at least some of the time!

Please note: The last picture is his "thinking about Jesus" pose. Convincing?

What a cute kid! I love the one where he's scrunching up his eyes, adorable.

I can't believe Isaac is FIVE! Did he get to start Kindergarten this year, or did he miss the cut off? His hair has gotten darker too. What a cutie.

Nice work Emily! These are great photos. Love the one with his mouth wide open. That's a Godfrey boy if I've ever seen one. (Although sometimes I see much of Steve too. Depends on the pose, I guess.)

Should I feel bad that I did not buy school photos this year? They are always so bad, but it's sort of obligatory since our mom did it.

I second Callie's comment- I can't believe Isaac is 5 already! Boy he looks a lot like Steve too. I've seen some snippets of Norah in there and did she end up with blond hair too? Send some more snapshots of that adorable little girl! I bet you're still loving having a girl!

Very nice pictures of a very handsome boy.

I just spent a small fortune for my boys' school pictures, even though I know they'll turn out awful. I'm not sure why I feel compelled to buy them.

I bought one set of school pics our of guilt but quickly decided that will never happen again. The last time I went to a studio was when Hunter had just turned 2 and Ben was brand new. Mary came with me to help me and it was then I decided I will never go back to one of those either. I like the ones you got of Isaac much more than any studio pic. Good job.

He is a beautiful boy! I can't afford to get the ugly school photos for all my kids and the last time I got portraits done in a studio I was 7 1/2 month pregnant with my now 6 year old twins. I left the studio in tears because we spent 45 minutes and never got one decent photo. The kids were in such a mood and I was so uncomfortable. I think home shots are so much better. You can capture more of their true personality.

Isaac is ADORABLE. Good job on the photos. I have NEVER taken my kids for a professional portrait. My moter-in-law is a great photgrapher and now that she's not doing as well Posey has taken over her spot as family photgrapher. I miss you Emily. Sorry this will come up as Elder Fattaleh. I can't figure out how to get back to my own blog.

Yeah, I've totally given up on the school photos. Talk about forced smiles! And I cannot/choose not to be able to afford them.
Alice, the camera is a Canon Rebel.
Isaac missed the cut-off for kindergarten by one day, but we are happy to keep him an extra year. Thanks for thinking he's cute. Sometimes his behavior makes us forget how cute he really is.
Jami, I miss you, too and REALLY want you to come visit: with girls from the ward or David or by yourself! You can help me host a Phoenix party for everyone up here from Thunderbird Ward.

Isaac, you are one cute kid! And you're quite the actor. I love the "thinking of Jesus" pose. Nice birthday shirt. And those are amazing crafty things Aaron made for you. I wish I could have helped on that project. I can't wait to see you-probably in a few weeks. I wish you a Happy Birthday and lots of love, Nana

Good job emily! I have a Canon Rebel also. I wish that I knew how to really use it. When I saw these pics of Isaac I started thinking...you and steve should have 17.5 children because they are all REALLY cute. Especially Mr. ISaac the birthday boy! Five looks fabulous on him!

What great pictures of the cute birthday boy. Thank you for inviting us to the fun party. It has been years since I have been to Chucky Cheese. We all loved it. It was fun to watch the kids enjoying the games and picking their prizes. The pizza was great and so were the pretty blue cookies with 5 on them. Happy Birthday Isaac!

Awesome pictures! Well done. And I LOVE free. I never get school photos and you should definitely have 17.5 children. :)

Happy birthday Isac! Max is almost 5 and can't waite! i hope he is not let down when he isn't a foot taller when he wakes up. I forgot how important each year was to a little child to be a bigger number.

Cute photos!!

Great idea. I too hate the annual trip to the photo place, which is always many months too late to correspond with the birthday it's supposed to correspond to.

My 2nd is 7 on Saturday. I think we'll do a photoshoot as well. Thanks for the idea. And thanks too for the post on my blog.

Praying right there with you for Stephanie,
Aileen
