Alyssa -- My uniquely talented friend from college and from now who is good at brightening the world around her.

Angela -- My sweet sister-in-law who is good at creating things and is also madly in love with her husband (it's sweet).

Austin -- My very engaging brother-in-law who is good at being interested and at being interesting and is one of my favorite people, even though he told me my son has an attitude (I'm over it, really).

Carly -- My first cyber friend, and she's awesome in real life, too.

Christen -- The cutest friend and mom and seamstress anyone could want. She chooses to wear bright colors when everyone else is wearing black (literally and figuratively), and that inspires me.

I read a lot of blogs. There are more.

Thanks, Emily! I'd like to remind anybody reading this that Emily is the one who got me started blogging, and now it is a certifiable addiction. And instead of "attitude", can I change the record to show "spunk"?

Emily-Thank you! You are so awesome...your friends here in phoenix really do miss you all! I love to wear color but I guess I do wear a lot of black...that's part of the fashion industry I guess.

Another taboo topic: money

I don't have a lot of real visible or artistic talents, but one talent that has served me well is an ability to manage and organize money well. A few of my sisters-in-law have asked me how I do the family budget, so this is a straight up accounting of how I do the accounting. When we get a paycheck: 10% tithing right off the top Then, with the remainder (net minus tithing), I divy it up into percentages and put money into different "funds" -- that I keep track of in the back of my paycheck because I'm old school like that. Mortgage: I figure out the percentage it will take to cover my mortgage. Usually 29-30%. I think this percentage needs to stay under 35% of take-home after tithing. Baby steps: 20% goes to meeting financial goals a la Dave Ramsey's baby steps.
