The world is flat

Isaac starts Chinese immersion next year in first grade. I'm thinking about taking Chinese 101 at BYU in the fall so I can learn with him, in spite of his pouty insistence that he wants "to be the only one in the family who speaks Chinese," (what happened to my sweet Isaac? there's some bratty kid who's taken over his body. I blame the losing of the second front tooth -- Mr. Sassy Pants) but the classes offered are at the worst possible times known to motherkind: 8 AM or 4 PM, EVERY DAY. Hmmm, how committed am I to this? In related news*, I'm going on a trip in June with my husband and only one of my little monkeys to our nation's fine capital {a or o, a or o? google doesn't seem to know } city and I'm interested in any of y'all's favorite things to do there. What one museum, one restaurant, one stroll, one bakery, etc. is not to be missed? Please share. If you do, I'll tell you about the only time I have been to DC and how it w

On health care reform: I like change. I think HCR has the opportunity to do a lot of good for a lot of people who are otherwise suffering. I'm pro- trying something new to see if it makes things better. If it doesn't make things better, there's always another solution down the road. I'm happy that Obama has done something he set forth to do. I'd like for him to have a successful presidency; I'm pulling for him for that. Success is obviously subjective, but I think it's the hardest job in the universe, and why not offer a little support where I can? I don't think most of America actually understands what they're bemoaning about, which makes me kind of cranky because I feel like it's being contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian and what's productive about that? If bemoaners know what they're talking about, and want to bemoan, then by all means, let's hear it. On revelation about Kevin Garn's DUI arrest, apparently while

The internet is great. Isaac has been sick all week with a fever and sore throat. Yesterday he tested negative for strep throat, although the doctor was puzzled by it because he had spots of nastiness on his throat. Last night Isaac refused to eat dinner because his teeth were hurting him, and his gums were swollen. Steve suggested that could be related to his "flu" symptoms, so we googled "swollen gums sick." Within minutes we had diagnosed our child with herpetic gingivostomatitis, the herpes that causes cold sores and that manifests itself for the first time in children with fever and headache and painful mouth. Then I looked closer at the sore on his lip and saw that it was, indeed, a cold sore. This morning I called the pediatrician's office to let them know what the puzzling sickness was, even though I'm sure they didn't care. (The receptionist was all, "What? Herpes?!") The internet is great.

This little piggy dressed like Steve Jobs. This little piggy's five months. This little pigsty got completely pulled out leaving only dirt and rocks so we can redesign a cool garden space. This little piggy had fun. This little piggy cries, "Waa waa waa waa," once in a while at home.

Even Isaac noticed it

We live by a Chadder's. I cannot eat there without wondering what they were thinking when they made their logo. Is there an armadillo in my hamburger? Or is that thing with the tail between the buns a mouse?

These two blogs were right next to each other in my Reader tonight and they made me laugh. They probably made the authors cry, but to me: funny funny. I'm sorry for your iPain.

Bewitching

There's a witch of Endor in the Old Testament . Is that where the name Endora comes from? That's right, folks, I'm talking about Bewitched. You can always expect topical and timely discussions when you pop in on this blog. Speaking of topical and timely, we saw Slumdog Millionaire last night. Who wants to be a  Mi'ionaire? It was powerful; it was haunting; it made me grateful for solid and sewage waste disposal.
